At a recent meeting with representatives of federal agencies, industry, patients and FFF, we were disappointed by the lack of understanding among some of the attendees of the current market conditions affecting the quality of patient care for people with primary immune deficiencies. But those of you who provide patient care are well aware of the situation
We are hearing from physicians and patients that the shortage of some IVIG products, combined with severely lowered Medicare Part B reimbursements rates, is beginning to have dire effects that must be remedied. We are concerned that if we do not take action, we are certain to have a health crisis within the primary immune deficient patient group — and possibly others who rely on IVIG to maintain their health.
Patients and physicians
are reporting:
-
some hospitals are refusing patients referred by their immunologists who can no longer cover the costs of IVIG therapy because of lowered reimbursement rates for IVIG therapy in office, clinic and home settings
-
some patients are not receiving their preferred IVIG product because of supply allocations, and the patients are experiencing adverse effects
-
and the incidents are on the increase across the nation
We must respond to this situation immediately. Please read this issue's Customer Alert. Please send your comments to CMS. And, please

We must take action now, to keep our patients safe and healthy.
