Regular features will include product and manufacturer news, healthcare information, immune globulin treatment options, community and reimbursement news, and resources for healthy living. Launching its first bimonthly issue in February-March 2006, IG Living will be distributed free to patients and their physicians' offices, including practices in immunology, neurology and hematology-oncology.

Influenza Vaccine Update: CDC Health Alert Regarding
Influenza Virus Resistance to Adamantanes
On January 14, 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health alert warning against the use of adamantane derivatives, amantadine and rimantadine, for the treatment or prophylaxis of influenza during the 2005-2006 season. Influenza viruses currently circulating in the United States are resistant to adamantanes.

The CDC's interim recommendation is that adamantanes not be used for the treatment or prophylaxis of influenza A in the United States for the remainder of the 2005-2006 flu season. Instead, the CDC recommends that neuraminidase inhibitors, oseltamivir or zanamivir, be selected if an antiviral medication is to be used. For the 2005-2006 season, all influenza viruses from the United States that have been screened for antiviral resistance at CDC have demonstrated susceptibility to the neuraminidase inhibitors. Tamiflu (oseltamivir), a neuraminidase inhibitor, has been proven effective in the treatment and prevention of influenza in adults and children one year and older.

FFF Enterprises has supplies of both Tamiflu capsules and Tamiflu for oral suspension. Please call FFF's Wow!

2005-2006 Flu Vaccine Still Available From FFF

Annual influenza vaccination remains the primary means of preventing morbidity and mortality associated with influenza. According to the CDC, October or November is the best time to be vaccinated, but vaccination in December or even later can still be beneficial. Flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May.

FFF currently has two flu vaccine products, Fluvirin and Fluzone, available for immediate purchase. Please call FFF's Wow! Customer Care Department to place your order: 800-843-7477.
